Dear readers,
We need you to contact city councilors and city council candidates and tell them how important it is that they commit to sponsoring a motion to provide $500,000 in city financing for the acquisition of 4145 Apple Street by the community development corporation NEST. On Wednesday, November 2nd at 5 p.m., Apple Street Market posted on its website and social media platforms a list of City Council members and City Council candidates who have committed to sponsoring the motion:
Please thank these candidates (above) who have jumped on board to sponsor or support this motion. And remember to vote on Tuesday, November 7th!
Is there a current council member you support but do not see on this list? We would love to have more candidates join this list to commit to support this motion! Click here for a list of phone numbers.
"Northside and South Cumminsville neighborhoods working with Apple Street Market and community development corporation Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation (NEST) have secured commitments totaling $3 Million to develop the vacant 4145 Apple Street property in Northside.
The property will be transformed into Apple Street Market -- A full-service, worker-and community-owned grocery store that meets the needs of low- and moderate-income residents and preserves the character and economic diversity of the two communities.
The missing component is $500,000 in acquisition funds for the community to purchase the building. NEST has submitted a funding request to the City of Cincinnati for the acquisition piece. This $500,000 will leverage the $3 Million in commitments that organizers have secured for improvements to the site and building.
Be sure to emphasize this project is shovel-ready and leverages funds that would otherwise be unavailable to these communities. The building acquisition funding is the prerequisite for the project to move forward."
