Our Mission
Founded in 2011, Co-op Cincy nurtures a resilient, integrated network of worker-owned businesses in the Greater Cincinnati region. Our goal: to create an economy that works for all.
sustainable jobs
By expanding worker-ownership, we support family-sustaining jobs, provide business-ownership opportunities to people from underserved and historically marginalized groups, and nurture businesses that are accountable to communities.
What is worker-ownership?
Unlike in traditional companies, workers in worker-owned enterprises “participate in the profits, oversight, and often management of the enterprise using democratic practices,” in the words of the US Federation of Worker Cooperatives. See their explanation for more detail.
Our vision
If we were to create an economy that worked for everyone—an economy that offered sustainable employment and was accountable to communities—what would it look like?
Co-op Cincy believes the answer lies in the success of Spain’s Mondragon, the largest and most successful cooperative network in the world. Mondragon’s resilient business model is the foundation for our efforts to create competitive enterprises, foster social and economic justice, and empower worker dignity by creating jobs accountable to their workers and the communities where they operate.
In bringing Mondragon’s model to Greater Cincinnati, we are developing an integrated network of community-driven, worker-owned businesses that will grow the economy and develop wealth from the ground up.
