Co-op Business Coach & Developer
Co-op Cincy is seeking a full-time Co-op Business Developer to join our growing team. Co-op Cincy works to overcome inequality of opportunity, mobility, and income by building a network of unionized worker-owned cooperative businesses.
We are looking for a full-time Co-op Culture and Business Developer to help our growing network of Co-ops thrive. This person provides holistic technical support to cooperatives within the Co-op Cincy network to ensure they are fully functioning, sustainable businesses that embody cooperative culture.
Key responsibilities
Providing technical support to the leadership team and co-op as a whole:
Support co-ops to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for cooperatives, aligning them with broader economic trends and Co-op Cincy’s mission.
Mentor cooperative leaders in advanced business strategies, governance, and financial management to ensure sustainable growth.
Facilitating and providing support at co-op team meetings to help build co-op culture and business literacy, as well as helping them problem solve challenges and build up effective communication and open book management skills.
Coordinate access to financial resources, including loans and grants, to support cooperative growth and development, including acting as the loan steward for your co-ops to access Seed Commons loans.
Loan Steward responsibilities include loan document preparation, writing the loan memo, helping coordinate the loan closing documents and disbursal of funds, and supporting the co-op with implementation of the loan project.
Serving on the board of co-ops, helping guide the co-op in best practices around co-op governance and adherence to values.
Serve as a key connector within the Co-op Cincy network, facilitating cross-cooperative collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Coordinating the local co-op loan committee - convening the meetings, sending out minutes
Helping to coordinate participation in Co-op U, Co-op Cincy's startup development course.
Facilitating trainings on various co-op related subjects.
General
Helping respond to inquiries, requests for interviews, and interest in co-ops.
Representing Co-op Cincy publicly.
Reprioritizing work from time to time to support small staff. We work very collaboratively.
Communicate with development personnel to support grant reporting and writing
Helping Co-op Cincy continue to improve its processes, practices, and professional development.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate would have some combination of the following qualifications:
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Ability to work nights and weekend hours if necessary
Ability to have frequent in-person meetings with co-ops in Metro Cincinnati
Experience in working on financial documents (e.g. projections, budgets, capital plans), and analyzing business opportunities and models (Business development experience)
Connected to cooperatives and the cooperative movement or interested in workplace democracy and cooperative structures
A clear, and coherent communicator in both written and oral forms
Personally well-organized and able to create and maintain appropriate online and physical files and communications systems
Experience with planning & facilitating workshops and meetings
Democratic decision-making experience
Commitment to transformative and equity justice
High level of organization and attention to detail, complemented by the ability to see the big picture
Salary: $50,000-$58,000 with 20 paid vacation days and 11 paid holidays
Benefits: Healthcare, dental care and short-term disability are provided without a waiting period. Co-op Cincy pays 89.25% of the monthly premium towards individual plans and or 57.1% of family plans. Co-op Cincy completely covers short-term disability. These benefits are made possible through our affiliation with the United Steelworkers.
Union membership with the United Steelworkers is a part of this job. $10 is deducted from your pay to join the union, and then a nominal amount is withheld from each paycheck. In addition to access to healthcare, union membership offers other benefits such as access to free college courses for you and your family.

Food Scrap Hauler
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Position Type: 22-25 hours/week, hourly (non-exempt)
Compensation: $20/hour
Workdays: Monday-Thursday

We partner with local farms and community gardens to compost the food scraps we collect, ensuring that the nutrients from these scraps help build healthy soils and grow food right here in Cincinnati.
Job Summary:
We are seeking to hire a Food Scrap Hauler to manage the servicing and collection of our commercial and residential customers’ food scraps. Food scrap hauling is the core of our work, and this role is essential to our operation. Our service involves driving to commercial or residential carts, maneuvering full 64-gallon carts to our truck, emptying, cleaning, and returning carts, and dropping off collected food scraps to our partner farms at the end of the route.
The Food Scrap Hauler will:
Safely operate Queen City Commons’ company truck (Ford F450 Super Duty Dump Truck) while completing collection routes on designated route days.
Complete tasks in a typical route day, which includes but is not limited to: driving collection vehicle, maneuvering full 64-gallon carts, operating cart tipper to dump material, cleaning carts, navigating vehicle around partner farm sites, operating dump body, cleaning truck bed.
Use a cellular device to record each cart’s poundage and other relevant information.
Monitor and maintain truck upkeep and maintenance.
Familiarize yourself with the mechanisms of the truck and cart tipper, including the proper safety policies and precautions to adequately operate them.
Maintain professional and meaningful relationships with customers, farm partners, route personnel, and other community members during route operation.
Maintain cleanliness of the truck and warehouse parking area.
Communicate on-route and/or customer needs to the Route Coordinator as necessary.
Work closely with the Route Coordinator to manage and update each week’s route schedule.
Required Qualifications:
Must be older than 21 years of age.
Valid, current driver’s license with safe and clean driving record. Must pass a DOT Medical Examination (CDL not required).
Comfortability with driving and maneuvering a large vehicle.
Strong commitment to safety of self and others.
Strong sense of responsibility over route operation and vehicle maintenance.
Self-directed and able to work independently.
Organized and able to reliably manage a maintenance schedule.
Able to work according to a regularly set weekly schedule.
Willing and able to work outdoors in all elements (rain, cold, heat, etc.).
Strong desire to be physically active throughout the work day. Food scrap hauling simultaneously requires stamina and attention to detail.
Can maneuver full 64-gallon carts and can lift up to 50 pounds of material.
Confident communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliable, motivated, patient, and able to work dynamically within a small business.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
Knowledgeable and passionate about composting, waste reduction, local agriculture, logistics, or highly energized about learning about these topics.
Interested in the worker-owner cooperative business model and democratic organization.
